A day before our check in, we got a call from the SOU Tent City staff, asking about our train details to arrange our pickup from Ekta Nagar railway station.  From there on, they handled everything- the pickup, meals, sightseeing as per schedule; we didn’t have to worry about anything at all.

If we read ‘tent’ written somewhere, the first visual that comes to mind is a camping kind-of tent, small and uncomfortable. However, Statue of Unity Tent City-1 gives a glamorous new meaning to what a tent could look like.

The Tents at Statue of Unity Tent City-1 are huge spacious tents with a double bed, sofas, writing table, locker, fan, AC and yet there’s a lot of walking space left over. The Tents were made of a thick decorative cloth bedizened over a wooden base structure. Of course, there was a proper door that could be locked and was fully secure.

The Statue of Unity Tent City-1 is built in clusters of tents, spread across a massive area with each cluster having close to 20 Tents together. Every cluster comes with a well-manicured garden in the middle where you can unwind; take a walk with your family, host a mini-picnic with your friends or just lay on the grass and connect with nature.

The bathroom was spacious and nicely done as well. There  was  a partition for the bath area too. The toiletries were from Ignus by Five Elements, maintaining a good standard of products. Geyser in the bathroom meant a relaxing hot shower at the end of the day! Lastly, these tents have ACs and a standing fan to keep your tent cool, no matter the temperature outside.

We specially kept aside an evening during our stay at SOU Tent City-1 to lounge outside our porch with a cup of tea and enjoy nature. There was a mini-table and chairs outside each tent along with a lounger for enjoying the view of the gardens.

It was so peaceful…we woke up to the sounds of chirping birds and a calming view of the Sarovar lake.

Let’s talk about food now- can a stay be complete without great food? No!

Especially at the Statue of Unity SOU Tent City-1, since meals are included in the package.

The package is inclusive of all meals: 3 times a day, along with morning tea and high tea in the evening.

Some of the reviews we read about SOU Tent City-1 mentioned excessive local food, however we found there to be lots of variety for food options- local dishes like Handvo, Dal dhokli, Dhokla, Fafda were of course there along with North Indian dishes like Palak paneer, Dal makhani plus some South Indian items for breakfast.

There were baked dishes on both the nights for dinner and a live-counter for continental food like noodles, Indian breads, Paratha etc.

Their aloo paratha  was excellent! We quite enjoyed the buffet spreads at SOU Tent City-1.

A special mention for their Chaas: can’t miss writing about it.

You cannot come to Gujrat and miss having chaas. Especially at SOU Tent City! It was just SO GOOD, it rounded up our meals perfectly and offset against Gujarat’s summer heat.

Lunch or dinner, there were always 2 sweets to end the meals on a relishing note; the moong dal halwa was delicious and deserves a mention.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evenings sitting in the gazebo by the lake.

It was so peaceful with beautiful green pastures and the gentle cool breeze; an excellent way to unwind.

Swimming pool

The SOU Tent City has an inviting and lovely pool that faces the lake, with loungers to chill on. Just right for a refreshing dip to beat the heat!

Each cluster of Tents has their own vast garden at their nexus. It is a beautiful opportunity for us city folks to reconnect with nature; an early morning walk through these lawns was a great way to ground yourself. There were stone tables and sitting areas for families to catch up or friends to host a picnic.

It’s cycling time!

SOU Tent City

We loved this!! They had cycled that were literally new with some plastic still unwrapped. Talking about how huge the property is, of course there was enough & more space to cycle around. Cycling by the lake at sunset was just perfect!

Nilu’s Protip: Do enquire about them at the reception beforehand.

We did not see the cycles at the property, but upon enquiring they had kept the cycled ready to use, right outside our Tent. After other guests saw us riding, they enquired too and suddenly lots of people were cycling & laughing in the resort…specially when parents cycled too! Sweet times. 🙂

Amphitheatre and Children’s Play Area, SOU Tent City

events at sou

The Statue of Unity Tent City has a play area to keep the little ones occupied while the parents can unwind.
Along with that, the resort has an open air amphitheater next to the gardens and by the lake which can be lovely to host a small get-together, a ceremony or party.

Games room & Gym

The Game room had table-tennis and board games like carrom, chess etc. which we did not get time for. The gym was small and had 3-4 pieces of equipment.
I would suggest to enjoy the outdoors rather than a games room which is available almost everywhere.

Should you take the Statue Of Unity Tent City-1 package?

The SOU Tent City packages are of 1, 2 or 3 nights.
We opted for the 3D/2N package which starts at Rs. 6000/ pp, per night.
Well, is it worth it? Let me break it down for you…

Once we reached Kevadiya, we did not have to pull out our wallet at all! Everything from Pickup on Day 1 to Drop on Day 3 was taken care of. All meals for all the 3 days including morning tea & high tea were included.

But mainly, tickets for the SOU tour were included, booked and facilitated by the Tent City itself. Same goes for all other attractions in the itinerary.

There were separate instructions for Children & Foreigners’ tickets for SOU, so please make a note.

All conveyance was through an AC bus that was comfortable and spacious, plus a staff member accompanied us for all the excursions.

To conclude, yes, the price is very much justified and a stay here is highly recommended.
